Recycling Reduction?

This semester, I moved into a house in Narragansett. I love it, but the one thing I don't love is the lack of recycling programs. There is a recycling center in Peacedale, the Rose Hill Recycling Center (http://www.southkingstownri.com/town-government/municipal-departments/public-services/solid-waste/rhrts-recycling), but in a town full of college students, who has enough time to bring all of their recyclables there? Many towns offer free recyclable pick-up. Although it would cause a rise in taxes, recycling is a necessary part of conserving the environment. With the threat of global warming constantly looming over us, we need to be active in preventing more damage to the world around us.

Recycled materials can be used for building materials, paper, and other things we use daily. You can find some mind boggling facts about recycling at http://www.recycling-revolution.com/recycling-facts.html or http://recyclingfacts.org/. Many people are jumping on the recycling bandwagon. There are more advertisements about the benefits of recycling. Celebrities are also promoting the need for recycling and ecological preservation. There are a plethora of videos on Youtube, as well as numerous songs about recycling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8BwXp7ICs0&feature=related). If more people complained about the lack of recycling pick up in Narragansett, maybe there would be a change. We waste too much recyclables by throwing them in the trash.
